About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated person to be a Specialist / Senior Closure Planner in the Strategic Planning & Study team, reporting to the Superintendent Study Integration, Copper South Australia.

In this role you will undertake all aspects of the closure management process, including maintenance of the closure knowledge base, stakeholder engagement, closure risk and opportunity assessment, closure plan development and closure cost estimating. Additionally, you will support strategic studies and projects, including in-field closure trials to inform the closure knowledge base. The role supports all BHP South Australian copper operations.

Your technical expertise will contribute to effective engagement with external and internal stakeholders on closure planning issues and integration of closure requirements into business activities.

This role is based in Adelaide on a Monday-Friday basis with some site travel required.

Key responsibilities can include work in any of the following areas:

• Collaboratively follow the closure management process to maintain robust closure management plans and closure cost estimates for closure provisions and Life of Asset plans by gathering, evaluating and challenging plan inputs.
• Closure technical expert for Copper South Australia who provides input and reviews projects compliance to closure requirements.
• Identifies and assesses closure risks and opportunities, makes risk informed decisions, uses BHP's risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes. 
• Identifies, engages and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders
• Identifies and develops closure design criteria for progressive and final closure outcomes, including landform, infrastructure, and social outcomes.
• Conducts timely and accurate reporting to drive insight that enables internal and external customers to make informed decisions and governance requirements.
• Develops and adapts tactical closure plans in alignment with strategic closure planning objectives to drive sustainable land rehabilitation and progressive closure. 

• Drives compliance to BHP Global Standards (including closure) and regulatory requirements. 

About You

• A degree in geoscience, engineering, environmental science or similar
• Experience in technical or leadership roles.
• Solid experience in closure related roles, with demonstrated experience in delivering the closure management process e.g. risk assessment, stakeholder engagement, options assessment, developing closure objectives, closure plans and closure cost estimates  
• Familiarity with closure and rehabilitation policy and regulation in South Australia.
• Operational mine site experience with closure/rehabilitation activities including performance monitoring.
• Have an understanding of SEC and SOX closure reporting governance.

Other valuable skillsets include:

• Ability to work well within a diverse team, able to show passion and be engaged in the team’s work.
• Understanding of financial valuation processes relating to closure planning and rehabilitation activities.
• Identifies and uses risk based frameworks to manage risk.
• Familiar in the use of GIS.
• Ability to ensure delivery on your commitments and hold others accountable through establishing clear goals and responsibilities.
• Strong communication skills; formal and informal, verbal and written.
• Strong technical problem solving experience with an ability to succinctly frame work requirements
• Familiarity with cost estimating processes will be highly regarded.
• Stakeholder engagement capability with ability to ensure delivery on your commitments and hold others accountable through establishing clear goals and responsibilities.
• Capacity to prioritise work and tasks by identifying and focussing on the critical few things that add most value, as well as reducing complexity.
• Study planning and or project management experience
