About the Role

Lead and govern the standardisation and improvement of SmartPlant for Operations (SPO) across BHP.  Accountabilities of this role include, but are not limited to:


  • Develop and maintain BHP’s global standards and best practices to ensure SmartPlant for Operations (SPO) are configured for optimal user experience and to maintain engineering information in the most effective and efficient manner.
  • Work with asset and Technology teams to align the various SPO instances to global standards and best practices.


SPO functional support and improvement:

  • Accelerate the SPO improvements by configuring key aspects of the various SPO instances to global standards and best practices.
  • Define the configuration requirements of SPO to support integration with design tools and work with assets to align their SPO instances to these requirements.
  • Work with key internal and external stakeholders to maintain and continuously improve our EIM standards, data repositories and processes to make it as simple, effective, efficient and sustainable as possible.



  • Support the activities of the EIM strategy and initiative as required.

About You

Minimum requirements that this candidate will bring are:

  • Extensive experience in engineering information management as part of Operations, Projects and/or Engineering in a heavy industry and the workflows to manage information e.g., as a SmartPlant for Operations (SPO) Administrator.
  • Experienced in engineering design, especially using Hexagon’s SmartPlant design suite and the interfaces between different tools and disciplines.
  • In depth knowledge of SmartPlant for Operations and / or SmartPlant Foundation and its configuration as well as its full functionality and limitations.
  • Proficient with SmartPlant EFSchema configuration and management, SPF authoring module, list edit, reporting, and datasheet functionalities.
  • Proficiency in .NET Programming, RDBMS like SQL Server/Oracle
  • Fluent in English - read and write. 
  • Deep understanding of the operating model and interaction between the processes, systems and people of Projects, Engineering and Operations.
  • Engineering degree or equivalent (wish).
  • Certification and experience in industry recognized improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma and/or Lean (wish).
  • Experience in implementing new engineering information management systems and processes across an organisation, including change management (wish).
