About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Water and Closure Planning, this is a full-time role within a growing technical function at Nickel West. In recent years, BHP has placed increasing emphasis on building more resilient and sustainable operations, and water stewardship is key in this business focus. As part of a dynamic team and work environment, you will actively contribute to the assessment and management of site water-related risks and opportunities.

In this role, you will:                   


  • Primarily support the new Honeymoon Well Project (currently in Identification Phase Study)
  • Provide technical oversight of water drilling, pump testing and monitoring programs
  • Assess hydrogeology / hydrology data and technical reports
  • Contribute to successful development, maintenance, and application of geological, groundwater and water balance models and related information management systems (data acquisition, storage, integration, and reporting)
  • Input statutory environmental approvals
  • Support wider Water Planning function execute team priorities
  • Contribute to the positive culture and continued development of the Water Planning function

About You

To be successful in this role you should possess:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Hydrogeology / Hydrology, Geoscience or Environmental Science.
  • Experience in water planning or related role/s, and preferably in mining or related industries.
  • Sound technical skill set and practical nous.
  • Geoscientific data management skills; data acquisition, integration, analytics, and reporting
  • Experience with development of geological, groundwater and water balance modelling preferable.
  • Good interpersonal/communication and teamwork skills.
