About the Investment Evaluation team
Investment Evaluation exists to drive better, faster decisions that shape BHP’s future. We do this by bringing independent judgment, commercial insight and robust evaluation to major capital investments, planning choices and commercial opportunities across BHP.

Investment Evaluation is part of the Portfolio Strategy and Development (PS&D) global function, which also includes Asset Business Development, Corporate Development and M&A, New Business Ventures, Corporate Planning, and Strategy & Market Intelligence.
About the Role
We are seeking a Specialist or Principal to join our Investment Evaluation team in Brisbane on a 12-month secondment / fixed-term basis.
In this role, you will help frame, evaluate and communicate the value, risks and trade-offs associated with major investments, planning choices and commercial opportunities across BHP. While the Investment Evaluation team supports decisions across BHP’s global portfolio, this role will primarily support BMA, working closely with asset and functional teams on material investment, planning and commercial decisions.
Working independently and as part of cross-functional teams, you will apply financial evaluation capability and commercial judgment to support robust recommendations for senior decision-makers. You will be expected to challenge assumptions, influence thinking and translate complex analysis into clear, concise insights that support high-quality investment decisions.
About You
As the successful candidate, you will bring strong analytical capability, commercial judgment and the confidence to influence business decisions. You will be comfortable working through complex problems, testing assumptions and communicating clear recommendations to senior stakeholders.
You will ideally bring:
- Demonstrated experience in financial evaluation, investment analysis or commercial decision support.
- Strong financial modelling capability, with the ability to assess value drivers, risks and sensitivities.
- Sound business acumen and an understanding of how investment decisions create shareholder value.
- Strong critical reasoning skills, including the ability to quickly grasp technical concepts and apply them to commercial decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex analysis into clear, concise recommendations.
- Confidence to work independently and with cross-functional teams, including challenging assumptions and influencing thinking.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under time pressure.
- Experience in resources, manufacturing or another process-driven industry would be advantageous but is not essential.
- A relevant undergraduate degree; postgraduate finance qualifications would be viewed favourably.
Location
In this 12-month secondment / fixed-term role, you will be based in Brisbane, Queensland, working a Monday-to-Friday roster. Flexible work options are also available.
