About the Role

 

The Health, Safety, Security & Emergency Management Team at WAN are a friendly and inclusive team who are looking for dedicated Security and Emergency Management Specialist & Coordinator with a commitment to supporting the safety and health of our people. Reporting to the HSS Superintendent Southern Operations and West Musgrave, this role is a Perth based role with regular travel to (Kalgoorlie, Kambalda, West Musgrave and Kwinana) and is vital to the strategic direction of the Security and Emergency Management HSS Team ensuring development within the teams and training and response activities are performed in a safe, timely and efficient manner.

 

Initiative, Enthusiasm and commitment to all aspects of Security and Emergency Response and medical care readiness is critical. We are seeking a self-starter with 3+ years’ experience as similar role with a strong training and leadership background. This role requires technical expertise to identified opportunities, solve problems and deliver for our customer. The role is centred on the governance and delivery and uplift of the Emergency Response Team capability for WA Nickel, and is heavily focused on engagement, process, governance, systems, training and support to the Security and Emergency Management teams. This role is a conduit between Emergency Services Officers, Security Officers, HSS leaders and Operational teams.

 

Ongoing development of skills and qualifications is expected in maintaining competencies and scope of practice, as well as leading a group of ESO’s, Security Officers and ERT to continuously build and improve response capability and discipline performance within the asset.  Compliance oversight with BHP medical guidelines and drug protocols is essential. Aside from the clinic based and medical aspects of this role, a proactive drive towards developing a successful emergency response team through skills development and continuous training.  Experience in medical care, firefighting, ambulance, security, defence forces or any emergency service in a leadership role will be advantageous to the success of this role.

 

As well as being the first point of contact for site-based security, emergency response and medical needs from teams across sites, you will be required to:

 

  • Ensure adequate response capability to mine site emergencies in maintained
  • Ensure process and systems in place and followed ensuring ER and medical equipment is well maintained and operational, including equipment inspections and records management.
  • Promote and verify highest possible standard of pre-hospital emergency care, ensuring adherence to treatment procedures, accurate completion of documentation, and applying the correct operational procedure in response to the situation presented to them (using systems such as Cority).
  • Develop team capability for on scene command and control and communicate opportunities, support requirements through to HSS Leadership Teams.
  • Develop the skills within the team to enhance emergency response team members maintenance training days.
  • Practice credible scenario responses to site material risks.
  • Assist with site access and security monitoring and process application

 

This role is Perth based (Kwinana) 5D 2X roster with regular travel ensuring visible leadership within all WAN Southern Operations sites (Kalgoorlie, Kambalda, Kwinana and West Musgrave). About You

 

This role will suit a highly capable leader and team player who is motivated to collaborate with site and HSS teams across the asset to ensure that everyone goes home safe every day. Above all, your positive attitude and willingness to learn and continually improve and develop team capabilities is integral to the success of the team.

 

To be successful for this role you will have:

 

  • Certificate III Mines Rescue Response or equivalent with the following competencies:
    • Road Crash Rescue
    • Confined Space Rescue
    • Vertical Rescue
    • Fire Team Operations
    • HAZMAT

 

  • Certificate IV Pre-Hospital Care or higher
  • UOC in Drug and Alcohol testing
  • Current Australian HR/MR Drivers Licence
  • Manual Drivers Licence
  • Certificate IV Training and Assessing 
  • Working knowledge of SAP, Excel and Word
  • Certificate IV Frontline Leadership and Management or equivalent

 

 You may also have the following desirable qualifications:

 

  • Diploma of Paramedical Science or AHPRA registration
  • Excellent communication skills and interaction experience with personnel, patients, or customer service 
  • Ability to make effective decisions in rapidly unfolding situations 
  • Experience in Major Hazard Facility Emergency Response
