About Mt Arthur Coal
Mt Arthur Coal is an open-cut coal mine 100 per cent owned by BHP. Located in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales it's the largest producer of energy coal in the region, operating alongside olive growers, wine makers, horse breeders and the nearby residential community of Muswellbrook. You may be aware we are currently seeking an extension of mining beyond 2026 to 2030 as part of a responsible closure of the mine in 2030. This extra four years will give us time to plan and support our workforce and the community for life after Mt Arthur Coal.
About the Roles
Mt Arthur Coal is seeking applications from students who are currently studying a relevant tertiary qualification (at a registered training organisation such as University, TAFE or a private education provider) and would like to undertake casual work alongside your study. Reporting to an experienced BHP team member, you will learn about day-to-day mining operations, as well as our uncompromising commitment to safety, and gain exposure to projects in your chosen discipline. The roles would be suited to individuals based in the Hunter Valley region of NSW, as these are residential opportunities. As a Casual Intern, you would be required to work one shift per week, for a period of up to six months. Flexibility on the days and times you work will be offered, to accommodate your study schedule.

- Electrical and mechanical fields

- Health (e.g. Paramedicine, Nursing)

- Geology
- Surveying

About You
You will be a student in 2025, currently studying (or commencing study before March 2025) and able to provide us with details of your course and enrolment status. A minimum age limit of 18 years old applies for these opportunities.
As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate the following:

- Keen to learn and a willingness for self-improvement
- Effective listener and have well developed interpersonal skills
- Minimum C class Driver’s Licence
