About Carrapateena

Carrapateena is a large, modern underground copper‑gold operation and one of South Australia’s most significant mining developments in the past decade. Located approximately 160km north of Port Augusta on the traditional lands of the Kokatha people.  Carrapateena combines cutting‑edge mining methods with a strong focus on safety, innovation and performance.

With an expected mine life of more than 20 years and ongoing investment to expand production, including the transition to large‑scale block cave mining, Carrapateena offers the opportunity to build a long‑term career in a future‑focused operation.

The Carrapateena Team is accountable for delivering value at the Asset in the short, medium and long term, against the needs of all stakeholders. With an immediate and core focus on delivering production outcomes, they have a secondary focus on leading the expansion of the mine by transitioning from a Sub Level Cave to a Block Cave – this will extend the Carrapateena mine life beyond 2039. About the Role

As Superintendent Block Cave Mining, you will join BHP Carrapateena in a senior leadership role, where you will lead teams that are building Australia’s next block cave mine.

This is a significant opportunity to be part of a new phase of this exceptional asset., which will ultimately deliver safe, efficient and increased production and forming a key part in BHPs Copper SA growth program.

This role is based at Carrapateena, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta) on an 8 days on, 6 days off FIFO roster. BHP can provide relocation support as required.

In this role you will:

• Manage and deliver execution strategies associated with Block Cave and SLC development mining including raisebore activities
• Engage, influence and collaborate with the planning and execution teams to successfully delivery the mine plan – with remit over health and safety, production and cost performance
• Work closely with planning teams to optimise mine design and schedules
• Manage change in a high-growth program of work
• Build and develop a balanced and high performing team
• Oversee quality assurance programs for development including mass excavations
• Act as delegate for the BC Mine Manager for day-to-day operations, or as required

About You

Your demonstrated experience in leading teams in complex operational and project environments will contribute to your success in this role.  

Excellent communication and influencing skills will enable you to quickly establish effective and collaborative relationships while your focus on safety leadership, continuous improvement, inclusion, and risk management will ensure the existing culture of safety excellence and optimal operational delivery is maintained.

In addition, we are ideally looking for the following skills and experience:

• Proven experience in the execution of an operational block cave project
• Experience in senior technical and operational roles
• An engineering degree in relevant discipline
• Leadership experience and management of teams in an operational context
• Experience implementing continuous improvement strategies
• Financial and commercial acumen
• Experience in project management and a project delivery mindset with a focus on quality, cost and schedule
• The ability to engage and find positive outcomes with diverse internal and external stakeholders
