About the Role
Reporting to the Manager HSSEM supporting WAIO Rail, this role is responsible for a scope including Health, Safety and Hygiene across the WAIO Rail Operations, located across the WA Pilbara region.
This role is based at Port Hedland and available as a FIFO (5/2/4/3) or residential (5/2) would also be considered.
Your accountabilities will include:
- Provide leadership to a team focussed on the strategic management of health, safety and hygiene related issues, provisions and initiatives across the WAIO Rail operations
- Coach and develop your team to deliver high performance and maintain an engaging, diverse and inclusive culture
- Manage, improve and provide expertise on health and safety risk management practices to improve organisational safety outcomes and performance
- Work with Operation leaders, develop and implement cross-functional or cross-asset improvement initiatives to enhance organisational capability, culture and processes in responding to safety or health related risks
- Build capability within operational leaders to foster a culture of safety curiosity, with a bias toward upholding of standards and encouragement of continuous improvement
- Utilise the BHP Operating System (BOS) to drive a customer-centric approach to safety engagement within the team, placing high value on time in field and responding quickly to customer needs
- Make evidence based and strategic decisions in alignment with longer term business objectives
- Identify, engage and manage a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders
- Identify and assess risks, make risk informed decisions, use BHP's risk management framework, and build a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes
- Oversee incident investigations and ensure effective corrective actions are in place, stepping forward to facilitate investigations on occasion and as required by our Global Standards.
About You
This role will suit an experienced, initiative-taking professional who is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of our people to support a thriving workforce.
As a successful candidate you will have:
- Experience in Health and Safety related leadership roles
- Qualifications in Health and Safety or related disciplines
- Strong knowledge in risk management and incident investigation frameworks
- Excellent stakeholder communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to visual presence in field and operation workplaces
- Forward thinking and an energetic and proactive work style
- Experience in the development and delivery of strategic and tactical plans, and management of complex and competing priorities
- An advanced understanding of HS&SEM Management systems and relevant legislation
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems with minimal direction
- Strong ability to develop own work plan and adapt to change
- Knowledge or experience working in a similar or related role in the Rail industry is highly regarded
