About The Role
Peak Downs is an open-pit coal mine that produces high-quality hard coking coal and is one of Australia's biggest coal mines by recoverable coal reserves. It's located 31 kilometres south east of Moranbah in Queensland's Bowen Basin on the traditional lands of the Barada Barna people.
In this role you will be responsible for the safety, volume and costs of our Coal operations, whilst providing strong leadership to the teams on site. Reporting to the Manager Production Load and Haul, you will be a dynamic leader with a strong safety focus and the ability to influence and shape the organisational culture. Your passion for continuously seeking to improve will be key to your success in delivering the site’s KPI’s and mission.
Key responsibilities:
- Effectively assigning and communicating tasks to teams and team members
- Accountability for safety, productivity, compliance and cost
- Managing performance outcomes for the team
- Resolving resourcing and scheduling issues to deliver the plan
- Providing input into all planning horizons
- Contribute to the development of the weekly plan
- Identify performance enhancing initiatives
- Manage statutory obligations
- Analyse variances, trends, risks and opportunities across shifts, highlighting operational performance issues to management
- Prepare reports describing performance for discussion with other leaders
- Contractor management
- Drive continuous improvement and challenge the status quo
About You
As the Superintendent Coal Mining, you will have demonstrated experience working in a large scale open cut mining operation specifically within Coal Mining.
- Relevant mining qualifications and statutory competencies (e.g. S123, G2, or Open Cut Examiner where required)
- Proven leadership experience in open-cut coal mining operations, with a focus on safety, productivity, and team development
- Strong understanding of mine planning, scheduling, and operational execution
- Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and foster an inclusive, high-performance culture
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across all levels
- A proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and operational excellence
- Committed to upholding environmental standards and regulatory compliance
