About the Role

 

We are seeking an experienced and values driven Superintendent Draglines & Dozers to join our leadership team at the Caval Ridge Mine. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a high performing team and play a critical role in delivering safe, efficient, and consistent operational performance on a seven days on / seven days off FIFO roster, flying from Brisbane or Cairns.

 

As the Superintendent Draglines & Dozers, you will provide strong operational leadership across our dragline and dozer fleets. You will champion safety, contribute to strategic planning, deliver operational excellence, maintain cost discipline and support your people to perform at their best. Your ability to build relationships, apply systems thinking, and lead with discipline will be central to your success.


Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and develop a frontline and operational workforce to deliver safe and productive mining performance.
  • Manage, co-ordinate and verify operational activities in the dragline operation, drill bench preparation, dozer push and key enabling tasks for mining
  • Maintain strong operational discipline with a focus on risk management and critical controls.
  • Utilise the BHP Operating System to engage frontline teams in problem solving, waste reduction and improvement projects 
  • Drive quality at every step: set clear standards, verify at each handover, and ensure issues are corrected early.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with planning, engineering, maintenance, and other production teams to optimise fleet performance.
  • Contribute to medium  and long term planning, including resource forecasting, improvement roadmaps, and equipment strategy.
  • Manage the operational budget for draglines and dozer fleets, ensuring effective cost control, accurate forecasting, and disciplined allocation of resources to maintain value.
  • Execute cost and production improvement projects as per the site business plan

About You

 

  • Significant leadership experience in dragline or dozer operations (or related large scale mining operations).
  • A strong commitment to safety and operational discipline.
  • A demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships across teams and disciplines.
  • A passion for continuous improvement, systems thinking, and structured problem solving.  Exposure to LEAN management or Shingo principles will be highly valued.
  • An ability to use systems thinking to understand how processes, behaviours, and operational factors interact to influence outcomes.
  • Confidence in setting expectations, holding yourself and others accountable, and developing capability within your team.
