About the Role
We are currently have a Health & Safety Superintendent (HSS) role to partner with Newman Operations leadership team within the WAIO HSSEM Business Partnering Team. Reporting to the Eastern Manager HSS, this is an unique opportunity to further develop and apply your H&S leadership skills and experience within a mature mining environment.
This role will be offered as a FIFO-based role from Perth on a 5/2,4/3.9/5,4/3 roster.
The role provides leadership to teams focused on the strategic management of health, safety, hygiene and HS assurance related issues, processes, provisions, and initiatives across BHP. Coaches and develops team leaders / teams to deliver high performance.
In this role you will:
- Provide leadership for a team of high performing and capable H&S professionals providing support to operational site leadership teams and be an active contributor to the H&S Leadership team across the Newman Operations
- Contribute the ongoing development of excellent team culture, including being curious out in the field
- Build capability within the operational leaders to enable them to create the desired health, safety culture, and enact their H&S risk management and compliance requirements Identify, prioritise and implement required H&S strategies and initiates to support successful operational outcomes.
- Support the site implementation of relevant H&S Business Plan initiatives Support the implementation of BHP Operating System (BOS) within the HSS team and the integration of key H&S elements within the operation’s ways of working routines to achieve H&S KPIs for the operation, function and Asset Govern and maintain the design and implementation of HSMS framework, standards, procedures and systems
- Drive continuous improvement as a technical safety expert across our operations
- Ensure provision of technical expertise and deliverables of health, hygiene, and safety requirements
- Work collaboratively with other HSS teams to improve H&S delivery and risk management across the Asset
About You

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to influence at multiple levels in H&S, with both internal and external parties;
- Forward thinking and proactive work style;
- A proven ability to develop and implement strategic and tactical plans;
- An advanced understanding of BHP H&S standards and systems, as well relevant legislation
- Formal qualifications in Occupational health and/or safety
- Greater than 8-10 years’ experience within the mining and resource sector or equivalent.
