About the Role


The Superintendent Mine Geology (Open Pit) is accountable for the operational and technical aspects of mine geology for NiW at the Mount Keith and Yakabindie resources.


The role ensures field execution of all production and grade control activities in accordance with approved Mine Operations plans, with a planning horizon of 24 months. The function is accountable for all operational functions in mine geology on site with a focus on orebody knowledge in all the resources in the pipeline for NiW.



The role will require you (but is not limited) to:


  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP “Our Requirements”, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and an over-riding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Disciplined Project Management – delivery of Geoscience production programs with metrics ($/m, $/tonne, quality tonnes to mill processed) tracked and reported
  • BOS routines embedded for team, L1&L2 boards running efficiently for team
  • Disciplined Project Management – safe execution of key transformative in-field technology and initiatives
  • Continuous Improvement – innovative thinking applied across all operations processes.
  • End-to-end execution of Geoscience Operations activities, including strategic, tactical grade control drilling, earthworks, sampling, survey etc
  • Disciplined contract user and contractor management process
  • Safe systems of work are in place and effective for all Geoscience Operations activities


About You


As the successful candidate you will possess the following:


  • Large scale open pit mining experience
  • Qualification in Geoscience essential
  • MBA or similar qualification advantageous
  • Demonstrated leadership of medium sized, diverse technical teams
  • Experience with geological modelling packages, datamine and leapfrog preferred
  • Experience in NiS Geology will be highly regarded
