About Olympic Dam
One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam, is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. The local township of Roxby Downs is an active and progressive community offering a variety of modern, well-equipped housing, educational, health, sporting, leisure, shopping and cultural facilities.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager Mine Services, this role supports the broad and diverse Mine Services department in this unique underground mining operation at Olympic Dam. You will lead large a large team across multiple shifts, providing oversight and delivery for secondary ventilation, dewatering activities, air and water reticulation and barricades to support our mine plan.
This role is based at Olympic Dam and is offered on an 8/6 roster FIFO ex-Adelaide, DIDO or Residential.
In this role you will:
- Foster a strong safety culture based on transparent and open communication within the Services and broader Mine team, leading to the execution of high-quality Field Leadership interactions, hazard reporting, incident reporting and incident management.
- Lead safety investigations into serious injuries and incidents, and ensuring these skills are built into the supervisor level for lower potential incidents.
- Drive consistent expectations, understanding and application of Mine Services processes designed to enable you to work safely and effectively every day.
- Lead and develop a diverse team of operational mining professionals by identifying, building and developing team capability through ongoing and regular coaching and development.
- Build relationships with other work groups and customers to ensure issues are addressed and resolved effectively in a timely manner.
- Set and clearly communicate operational priorities, targets and expectations aligned with the departmental goals, customer requirements and BHP charter values.
- Coach the operational performance of the team by ensuring quality of tasks are within the required service level agreements.
- Foster a continuous improvement mindset through utilisation of BOS practices and routines by ensuring the implementation improvement projects with a focus on improving safety/operational/cultural performance and reducing cost.
- Support optimal resourcing of the team and ensure that capabilities, systems and processes are in place and well managed to enable highest possible effectiveness and efficiency of the team.
- Risk management performance through an embedded understanding of material risks and that the critical control execution and verification responsibilities of the team meet required compliance guidance.
About You
- Tertiary Degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or related discipline is preferred
- Experience in underground operations (First Class Managers Ticket will be highly regarded)
- Sound understanding of Contractor Management
- Understanding of the scope of mine services disciplines
- Commercial acumen with delivery-focus
- A proven ability to effectively manage and engage with a large and diverse work group, support and promote a culture where it is Safe to Speak Up
- Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in ‘Safety Leadership’
- (Mining Engineer or similar) or significant operational experience
- Demonstrated operations experience in an underground mine site
