About the Role

 

Prominent Hill is copper-gold mine, a long-life asset, that is part of the BHP South Australia copper province.  BHP is a global company with operations in Australia, North and South America across 5 different commodities.

We will responsibly manage the most resilient long-term portfolio of assets, in highly attractive commodities, and will grow value through being excellent at operations, discovering and developing resources, acquiring the right assets and options, and capital allocation.

In this role you will

 

  • Lead and mentor the Minning & Engineering team that provides professional, constructive, and timely medium to long-term planning support and strategic plans to identify and address critical issues and opportunities in the context of Life of Asset (LoA) goals.
  • Provide leadership and technical review to ensure all planning and study deliverables are of a high standard to enable business decisions to be based on accurate design, estimation and scheduling.
  • Develop long-term mine planning, underground mine growth projects and mine ventilation and survey management plans.
  • Provide strategic plans that address budgets, forecasts, the outputs of which include physicals, costs and explanatory notes as required.
  • Maintain QAQC on the mine planning standards and processes.
  • Develop scope and update all long-term mine schedules and plans and provide input into the 3-month rolling schedule.
  • Scope, benchmark, plan and provide advice for underground mining strategic purposes to Technical Services Manager.
  • Monitor the underground mine planning process to ensure safety standards, regulations, and best practice mine design criteria are met and maintained.
  • Manage the contractors and consultants undertaking planning project work as required so they meet safety, cost, regulatory and site requirements, and contractually agreed outcomes.

About You

 

  • Previous experience in a mine planning role within underground metalliferous mining environment.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of relevant Australian legislation and mining regulations including occupational health and safety.
  • Sound experience in fostering strong safety culture based on open and transparent communication with all stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to translate strategic direction into practical plans, budgets and metrics that align and stretch the team to achieve high performance. Adapts plans and team priorities in response to shifting customer needs, seeking input from the team on new risks and opportunities.
  • Well-developed ability to engage with stakeholders to ensure the solution meets requirements, monitoring and escalating variances in project performance, schedule and cost as required.
  • Well-developed project, time management and prioritisation skills, with high attention to detail, excellent problem solving and communication skills.
  • Highly developed mine planning and budgeting management systems with proven ability to read, interpret and review mine plans.
  • Proven ability with Mine Planning software and experience with scheduling software; preferably Deswik and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven capacity to a take a leading role in a technical services team by setting the example which motivates others.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills, including preparing reports, budgets, strategic plans and interacting with external regulatory bodies, and Senior Leaders / Board.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or related discipline
  • Current National Police Check (NPC) (Or ability to obtain)
  • The following qualifications, accreditations, and licenses are desirable for this role:
  • Valid Authority to Operate Light Vehicle & Drivers’ license
