About the Role
The Technology Function has progressively expanded its support to encompass a broader array of production-critical systems and services, thereby strengthening the alignment between technology professionals and operational mining processes. With technology now deeply embedded in daily mine site activities, comprehensive on-site and remote assistance is provided in areas such as operations, technical enhancements, governance, and the optimisation of both current and future mining systems.
The Coal Mining Systems a department within the Technology Function, supports a diverse range of mobile mining fleet systems, including autonomous, semi-autonomous, and conventional fleet management systems. We also focus on emerging technologies targeting safety and awareness applications to enhance safety and health performance across our assets.
The department is seeking a Superintendent with experience in operational technology to lead a team of professionals in delivering support to the business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leadership of a team delivering on the annual and near-term life of asset goals to support the business’ safety and productivity targets
- Strategic lifecycle and tactical roadmap planning to support optimisation, increased functionality, contractual obligations and financial planning and approvals to support application performance
- Management of technical support (Incident and Problem Resolution) for our Caterpillar Fleet Management Applications delivering Availability, Mean Time to Restore and Mean Time Between Failure metrics.
- Enhancing the sub-domain user experience by improving and optimising usability, performance, technology planned maintenance downtime and overall system availability.
- Stakeholder engagement with OEM and operational teams to support delivery against operational safety and productivity targets
- The management and support of an improvement programme aimed at optimising the application and productivity of technology systems within the coal mining environment.
- Seek to drive down operational costs through consolidation, simplification and operational excellence
- Utilise and optimise the use of standard work practices routines to connect, influence and engage your team, stakeholders and vendor support
- Support your teams mental and physical health and wellbeing through regular engagement, development and support conversations
About You

A high level of self-motivation is expected to drive improvements in safety and productivity through the strategic application of technology to optimise both current and future mining operations.
Skills and Other Qualifications
- To be successful in this role, you will have a background in the support of fleet management applications
- Experience in managing operational technologies
- Experience in developing, communicating and delivering on strategic plans for Technology management
- Experience in the management of incidents, changes, problems utilising ITIL Methodologies.
- Tertiary or industry qualifications are desirable but not required and can be substituted or supplemented by on-the-job training and experience developed through industry exposure and accountabilities
- Desirable experience of mining system applications
Location
The position is located in Brisbane, Queensland, with access to both BHP's Brisbane offices and site offices as needed for assigned responsibilities. The role provides access to technology that supports flexible work arrangements when possible.
Occasional travel to operational sites may be required to support on-site personnel and engage with stakeholders.
