About the Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Projects Superintendent will lead a multi-disciplinary team of Engineers, Supervisors, and Technical Specialists responsible for delivering the capital projects portfolio at Goonyella Riverside Mine for small-medium capital projects <US$30M.
In this role, you will provide strategic and technical leadership across the full project lifecycle, from early definition and planning through to execution and close-out, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with business objectives. You will be responsible for the development and execution of the capital plan for the operation.
Success in this position requires a combination of strong leadership, disciplined project management, and the ability to influence across multiple stakeholders and functions. You will foster collaboration, drive accountability, and maintain a clear focus on value delivery, innovation, and continuous improvement.
This position is based at Goonyella Riverside Mine (Moranbah, QLD), on a Monday to Friday roster, with Residential, DIDO, or FIFO options available.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage the delivery of Goonyella Riverside’s capital projects portfolio, ensuring safety, cost, schedule, and quality targets are achieved.
• Develop the long term capital plan for the mine by working closely with stakeholders to understand operational needs and by managing an OPEX budget for engineering IPS studies
• Provide technical and people leadership to Engineers, Supervisors, and Technical Specialists through all project phases.
• Drive governance and assurance processes in line with BHP’s Project Management Framework.
• Manage contractor performance and ensure compliance with BHP’s standards, procedures, and commercial frameworks.
• Oversee financial performance, cost control, and forecasting for the capital program.
• Foster a high-performing, inclusive culture that encourages ownership, learning, and innovation.
• Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with site operations, functional teams, and external partners.
• Lead with the BHP Operating System (BOS) values and further embed this standardised way of working within the department
• Champion BHP’s values and ensure safe systems of work are embedded across all project activities.
About You
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering (RPEQ or Chartered status preferred, but not essential).
• Demonstrated experience in project management and delivery of small-to-medium capital projects within mining or heavy industry.
• Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to develop, coach, and empower teams.
• Commercial acumen with experience in procurement, contracting, and risk management.
• Skilled in SAP and project scheduling tools (MS Project or Primavera)
• Skilled and experienced in project controls and estimating for small to medium projects
• Highly motivated, safety-focused, and results-oriented with a strong customer mindset.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
