About Potash

The Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon.  BHP’s CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment in the Jansen project will deliver a potash mine in Saskatchewan designed to maximize sustainability. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan’s history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles. 

 

Jansen's construction will take place over several years with first production planned for late 2026. Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages. Work Location

This role will be based at the Jansen Mine Site located in Leroy, SK. The associated work schedule will be Monday to Friday.

 

As this role is not eligible for accommodation in the site camp, the incumbent must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the Jansen site. BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required. Benefits offered as part of the relocation program include (but are not limited to) new home purchase assistance, temporary accommodations, home finding trip and a relocation allowance.

Purpose

Reporting to the Manager Technology Operations (Potash), this is an ideal opportunity to lead and develop a technical team focused on the management and support of on site operational technology and systems both on surface and underground. This role involves leading a team of specialists to establish and embed BHP technology and operational best practice methods supporting and maintaining OT systems at our Jansen site.

About the Role

As the Superintendent Operational Technology, you will: 

  • Ensure an engaged, inclusive and diverse culture, where everyone is motivated to work at their full potential
  • Manage performance targets and plans to deliver on site production requirements
  • Ensure disciplined application of the BHP Operating System, standards, processes and systems, including risk management.
  • Build cross-functional relationships with the operational sub-functions to support the delivery of production.
  • Play an active role in contract management.
  • Translates strategic direction into practical plans, budgets and metrics that align and stretch the team to achieve high performance.
  • Adapts plans and team priorities in response to shifting customer needs, seeking input from the team on new risks and opportunities.
  • Makes connections between multiple issues/systems/initiatives to determine the implications of decisions on the broader system.
  • Determines the underlying cause of problems and evaluates multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex problem

About You

Required:

  • Completion of a post-secondary program from an accredited institution in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline (or an equivalent level of industry experience in a large enterprise environment)
  • ITIL Foundation certification
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal

 

Recommended:

  • ITIL v3
  • Agile Foundations certification
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology
