About the Role

 

In this role, you will lead the development and implementation of contracting strategies, standards, processes, systems, and plans for a complex capital projects portfolio. Your focus will be on enabling the safe delivery of value-maximizing investments across large-scale projects. As Superintendent Projects Commercial, you will manage critical internal and external project interfaces, assess and mitigate risks, and foster strong relationships with key collaborators. You will bring an end-to-end commercial perspective to project execution, ensuring alignment between strategic objectives and operational delivery. 

 

Main Responsibilities

 

  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct, and all relevant statutory obligations.
  • Champion health, safety (including mental health), environmental responsibility, and sustainable development, maintaining a relentless focus on reducing risk exposure.
  • Lead the development of contracting and procurement strategies under EPCM and EPC models, identifying interfaces and risks within a multi-billion-dollar project scope, while aligning with Supply and Purchasing sub-functions.
  • Provide leadership in the administration and management of EPCM and EPC contracts, ensuring effective execution, performance monitoring, and contractual compliance.
  • Act as the project’s key focal point for Contracts, Procurement, and Supply, applying an end-to-end Supply Chain perspective to optimize efficiency and maximize value.
  • Evaluate risk profiles, project drivers, and contracting options to support strategies aligned with execution plans.
  • Manage contract execution and performance analysis to deliver strong operational and financial outcomes while mitigating risk exposure.
  • Develop strategies for safe project delivery and contractor performance, driving continuous improvement and innovation across the portfolio.
  • Build alignment and negotiate outcomes that achieve mutually beneficial results.
  • Identify and assess risks, make risk-informed decisions aligned with BHP’s risk management framework, and foster a risk-aware culture.
  • Engage and manage a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Diagnose root causes of issues and evaluate multiple solutions to address complex challenges in a structured manner.
  • Mitigate people, environmental, and community risks across the value chain, aligned with sustainability and public policy.
  • Drive performance toward 100% safety, 100% customer value, and 0% waste.
  • Leverage organizational capabilities to deliver integrated and high-performing outcomes.

 

About You

 

What We Expect From You

 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Construction Management, Economics, Business Administration, Law, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in Procurement and Contract Management, including EPCM and EPC models.
  • 10+ years of experience in project environments.
  • Advanced written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience leading commercial teams.
  • Strong business acumen and deep understanding of project execution, risks, and strategies.
  • Proven experience across all phases of large-scale capital projects, including leadership of Contracts & Procurement teams.
  • Expertise in contract formation, logistics, expediting, contract administration, claims prevention and management, and interface coordination.
  • Hands-on experience in EPCM and EPC project development, including contract negotiation and management of terms and conditions.
  • Strong understanding of value drivers and key levers for successful project portfolio delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to align stakeholders and drive collaboration.
  • Capability to operate in a global environment and deliver excellence across commercial project teams.
  • Solid knowledge of contract law and contract management principles.
  • Offshore experience is considered an advantage.
