About the Role

 

Step into a role where every day brings purpose, empowerment, and impact. As the Superintendent Security & Emergency Management (SEM), you will be the driving champion behind protecting people, operations, and communities across the Eastern WAIO region. This is your opportunity to guide a high performing, diverse team and shape the future of SEM capability across Jimblebar and Newman Operations.

 

Working FIFO from Perth, you’ll partner with operational leaders, Health & Safety teams, law enforcement, local communities, and emergency management organisations building strong relationships that enable safe, resilient, and high-performing sites.

In this role you will:

 

  • Provide energising guidance, expert support, and real-time coaching across operations and SEM teams
  • Build a confident, capable team who thrive under your mentorship and deliver exceptional service to the business
  • Champion a culture of performance, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Enable the uplift of site security and emergency response capability—ensuring our teams are prepared, skilled, and confident
  • Support enhancements to incident response, ensuring rapid, effective, and coordinated actions when it matters most
  • Bring SEM best practice to life across multiple operations
  • Use BHP’s risk management framework to identify risks early, influence decisions, and strengthen site resilience
  • Shape safe and productive outcomes by embedding a risk-aware mindset across every layer of the operation
  • Promote SEM to the forefront of the BHP Operating System (BOS) by integrating key routines, insights, and performance drivers
  • Support operational leaders to achieve SEM KPIs through disciplined planning, execution, and review cycles
  • Maintain strong system design and ensure SEM processes are fit-for-purpose, accessible, and future-ready
  • Champion the four safety basics and inspire a safety-first culture across all SEM activities.
  • Collaborate widely with Health, Hygiene, Security, Emergency Management and Safety teams to deliver cohesive, high-quality SEM outcomes
  • Build productive partnerships across internal and external stakeholders, strengthening community and emergency management networks.

About You

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to influence at multiple levels in team, with both internal and external parties
  • Forward thinking and proactive work style
  • A proven ability to develop and implement strategic and tactical plans
  • An advanced understanding of BHP H&S standards and systems, as well relevant legislation

 

Formal qualifications and/or equivalent experience in health and safety or related discipline such as science or business.

 

Extensive, senior-level experience within the security, emergency services, mining or resources sector (or equivalent).
