About the Role

 

We are seeking a Rail Safety Management Systems (RSMS) Superintendent to bring technical rail and safeworking expertise to a role that supports the safe, reliable operation of our rail network. This opportunity is well suited to an experienced above or below rail professional who is passionate about building capability, fostering strong safety outcomes and working collaboratively across the business to strengthen rail safety performance.

 

Reporting to the RSMS Manager, you will partner with operational and functional teams to support safeworking uplift, performance monitoring and compliance with Rail Safety National Law requirements, including demonstrating outcomes to ONRSR.

 

Key areas where you'll make an impact include:

 

  • Oversee the compliance of Safeworking notifiable occurrence standards and regulatory requirements
  • Lead and develop a technical specialist team to deliver high-quality assurance goals
  • Manage end to end performance and progress of Operational Rules and Procedures
  • Engage and effectively communicate with key stakeholders and third parties
  • Plan, track and manage safeworking and performance routines
  • Identifies and assesses risks, makes informed decisions using BHP Risk Management framework
  • Determines underlying risks, cause of problems and evaluates solution through structured approach
  • Understands customer needs and focuses on delivering outcomes that meet them

 

This opportunity is available on either a residential 5:2 roster for candidates currently living in Port Hedland or a FIFO 5:2/4:3 roster from Perth.

About You

 

Knowledge and Experience

 

  • Proven experience in leading functional or operational teams
  • Large-scale operational or project environment, preferably in heavy haul railway operations
  • Above or below rail infrastructure worksite protection experience
  • Demonstrates ability to manage project timelines inline with Rail Master Plan and Strategy
  • Experienced in managing and engaging cross-functional relationships
  • Fluent with the application, auditing and monitoring of Rail Safety National Law Act and Regulations
  • Knowledge of rail operations and signalling systems
  • Comprehensive Contractor management and partnership framework

  • Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building trust and collaboration within diverse teams
