About the Role

 

BHP is currently recruiting for a high performing and capable Security & Emergency Management (SEM) Superintendent to join the Health, Safety, Security and Emergency Management (HSS&EM) team at BMA. This is a permanent role working Monday to Friday role leading the BMA SEM teams in the Bowen Basin.  Ideal for the professional with several years of tested experience in rescue, fire and medical response in public and private environments.

 

As a SEM Superintendent with BHP, you will be working in a dynamic and demanding environment, which will come with its own unique challenges. This is a great opportunity for experienced SEM professionals who are collaborative and dynamic leaders with a proven track record to drive cultural change and enhance health and safety capabilities within our SEM teams. 

 
In this role, you will: 

  • Provide leadership, monitor and report on our partners (contractor) performance and delivery to scope of work (medical, fire and rescue) through our routines. 
  • Liaise directly with our Operations and Contract Partners to resolve day to day operational challenges to maintain safe and stable service delivery.  
  • Provide coaching and expert advice to the Operations team, their direct reports and key stakeholders on all SEM matters. 
  • Conduct field leadership to support the assurance of SEM standards (including relevant statutory obligations), plans and safe working instructions.
  • Partner with Operations to review our Emergency Management Plans, risks and controls under BHP's risk management framework.
  • Support our site access management, including the ability to utilise and identify improvement opportunities with access processes and systems.
  • Participate in the governance and assurance of SEM training and exercises. 
  • Managing, monitoring and controlling costs associated with SEM within their area of accountability.

About You

 
This role will suit a highly capable leader who is motivated to collaborate with sites and HSS&EM teams to ensure that everyone goes home safe every day.
 

  • Minimum of eight years of working knowledge of SEM regulatory & best practice standards, policies and procedures and their implementation in the mining and resources sector, specifically for Queensland
  • Demonstrated ability to reliably deliver team results and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to identify and lead complex change through vision setting and the effective execution of change management processes.

 
You will have:
 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Medical (i.e. Paramedic, Nurse), and or Security and Emergency Management
  • Certificate III Mines Emergency Response and Rescue or Certificate IV Public Health 
  • Proficient with various word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  • Demonstrated experience in the Security and Emergency Management industry.
  • Experienced people leadership exposure within mining/heavy or transferable industry.
  • Have strong leadership, communication and engagement skills, ability to adapt to suit target audience.
