The role of the Superintendent Security & Emergency Management (SEM) is to provide functional leadership, coaching, and advice (business partnering) to the operational areas they support. You will lead and manage a diverse and inclusive team responsible for the safe & successful execution of the Regional WAIO Site SEM services. 

 

This role maintains strong working relationships across multiple operations of Jimblebar and Newman Operations, and Health & Safety function leadership teams as well as external stakeholders involved in local law enforcement, local communities and emergency management organisations.

 

About the Role

 

We are seeking an individual that will be FIFO from Perth, that will have the opportunity to lead to a team focused on the strategic management of security and emergency management, and assurance related issues, processes, provisions and initiatives across BHP. 
 

In this role you will:

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and expert advice to the operations team, their direct reports and key stakeholders on all SEM matters
  • Lead own team culture whilst embodying the BHP Charter and Code of Conduct across WAIO
  • Build leadership capability within their own team 
  • Respond to and improve the effectiveness of SEM response services to uplift organisational capability in managing security events and emergencies/incidents
  • Manage, improve and provide expertise on SEM practices to improve operational outcomes and performance
  • Govern and maintain, where relevant, SEM standards (including relevant statutory obligations)
  • Identify and assess risks, make risk informed decisions, uses BHP's risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes
  • Support the implementation of BHP Operating System (BOS) within the operational teams and the integration of key SEM elements within the operation’s BOS routines to achieve KPIs for the operation, function and Asset
  • Govern and maintain the design and implementation of SEM standards, procedures and systems
  • Drive continuous improvement of the four safety basics across the operation
  • Ensure provision of technical expertise and deliverables of health, hygiene, security & emergency management and safety requirements
  • Work collaboratively with other teams to improve SEM delivery and risk management across the Asset

  • A proven ability to develop and implement strategic and tactical plans
  • An advanced understanding of BHP H&S standards and systems, as well relevant legislation
  • Formal qualifications and/or equivalent experience in health and safety or related discipline such as science or business
  • Extensive experience within the security, emergency services, mining and resource sector or equivalent
