About Potash

BHP’s Jansen Potash Project located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is BHP’s first and most advanced potash project. Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP’s global portfolio. Jansen’s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.


Reporting to the Manager Health Safety and Environment, the Superintendent Security delivers strategic leadership, provides expert advice, maintains compliance and passionately grows the capability of Security services to meet the needs of the Jansen Potash Project.

About the Role


In this role, you will:


  • Develop and execute the Security functions component of Jansen Health, Security and Emergency Management strategy 

  • Provide technical advice and coach the line on mitigation of security threats and mitigation of vulnerabilities 

  • Lead the growth of security capability through security in-depth principles to meet the expansion of the portfolio 

  • Implement and coach the line on security requirements to drive compliance with legal and BHP Requirements 

  • Maintain security and monitoring critical controls to support our material risk program

  • Coordinate security reporting and execute data integrity and governance activities

  • Complete time in-field conducting layered audits to identify gaps and improvement opportunities

  • Manage contract partners and execute contractor representative activities

  • Engage and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Work Location

This role will be based at the Jansen Mine Site located in Leroy, SK.

About You


  • Tertiary qualification in a related field (Security, intelligence etc.)

  • Exposure to risk management practices and programs, with a strong understanding of relevant security standards and ISO 

  • Demonstrated ability to influence decisions and performance at both operational and senior management levels

  • Tactfully manages private information and operates with the utmost concern for confidentiality 

  • Superior interpersonal skills to engage, influence and manage a broad stakeholder group

  • Works effectively in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to think critically and respond to changing priorities across multiple levels of the organization
