About Potash

The Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon.  BHP’s CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment in the Jansen project will deliver a potash mine in Saskatchewan designed to maximize sustainability. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan’s history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles.

Jansen's construction will take place over several years with first production planned for late 2026. Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages. Work Location

This role will be based at the Jansen Mine Site located in Leroy, SK working a 40-hour week on a Monday to Friday work schedule.

 

As this role is not eligible for accommodation in the site camp, the incumbent must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the Jansen site. BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required. Benefits offered as part of the relocation program include (but are not limited to) new home purchase assistance, temporary accommodations, home finding trip and a relocation allowance.

Purpose

Reporting to the Organizational Readiness Manager, the Superintendent Technical Training provides leadership to teams focused on the development and delivery of training and assessment for operational roles and activities. This role plays a critical role in ensuring safety and risk is mitigated by ensuring employees are trained and assessed as competent prior to entering the work environment.

About the Role

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the development and deployment of all BHP Potash asset training content.
  • Lead the project for the procurement of training aids inclusive of simulators and VR equipment.
  • Support the management of vendor selection, contracts, and performance to ensure training requirements are met. 
  • Forecast training requirements by using skills matrices and training needs analyses to create targeted training plans that address operational capability gaps.
  • Develop a team to train and assess operators of specialist equipment to certify that team members are competent and authorized to work.
  • Implement improvements to training scheme based on a review of metrics and implements program modifications to increase the utility/uptake of training sessions.
  • Create a sense of pride and team identity by recognizing and promoting achievement, showing care and respect to all team members, and promptly addressing non-inclusive behaviours, team issues and conflict.
  • Build and balance the capability composition of the team by coaching, providing on-time feedback and leveraging strengths within the team to build capability in others, enhance team/individual performance and improve uptake on learning opportunities.
  • Build an understanding of leadership impact by seeking and receiving feedback with courage and humility. Prioritizes the development of new skills and capabilities to meet changing customer needs, role modelling the sharing of lessons learned and best practice benchmarks and approaches with the team.

About You

  • Create a culture of care by being a visible safety leader, engaging, developing and coaching your team
  • Utilize your strong communication and collaboration skills and ability to work across various stakeholders
  •  Ability to foster a culture that supports and promotes a diverse workforce
  • 5-10 years experience in a training professional role
  • Site mining experience preferred
  • A trade certificate and technical understanding of fixed plant and/or mobile equipment is desirable
