About The Role:

 

Carrapateena is a large-scale, world class modern mine operated by world class people. This exciting role is now available, and we want the very best of the best on deck to lead the team and collectively deliver exceptional results.

 

The Superintendent Ventilation, in the Mine Technical and Technology Team, is responsible for all ventilation planning and implementation including monitoring and rectification allowing for the mine to safely execute the mine plan. Reporting to the Manager Mine Technical and Technology, the position leads the operational ventilation team of Engineers, Specialists and Technicians.

 

The role is responsible for leading a team of 17 roles from technicians to senior engineers and principals including professional & personal development, coverage management & administrative requirements.

 

Location: Carrapateena, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)
Roster: 8 days on, 6 days off; 4 days on, 3 days off

In this role you will:

  • Oversee Hazardous Atmosphere Risk Management
  • Provide regular inspection, monitoring and testing of underground workplaces to ensure adequate ventilation flows and atmospheric contaminants are as low as can be reasonably achieved inclusive of radiation
  • Control and monitor all underground ventilation systems to ensure ventilation standards and regulations are met and maintained.
  • Creation and management of operational Ventilation TARPs
  • Conduct and plan underground environmental hygiene checks as required and documented by Occupational Health & Safety standards
  • Plan, direct and document air quality surveys for temperature, gas, radon, dust, air flows, and other contaminants.
  • Develop, maintain, coordinate and issue ventilation, egress, and firing plans.
  • Oversee input and management of Ventilation Management Plans, Site Radiation Management Plan, Radon Management Plan with the Occupational Health & Safety team and Radiation Safety Officers
  • Control the underground ventilation system in line with budgeted physical targets in a safe and sustainable manner.
  • Implement corrective action plans in consultation with Planning Engineers and Contractors.
  • Plan, undertake and document UG Secondary and Primary Surveys and required reporting
  • Management of the contractors undertaking the ventilation works so they meet safety, cost and improvement targets.
  • Ventilation Planning - Ventilation Planning from life of mine handover through all planning horizons to Shift Plans. This is to be done by taking inputs from the Medium & Long Term Ventilation Plans produced by the respective teams.
  • Create, issue and validate Ventilation Plans required to execute the Ventilation Schedule or rectify conditions to ensure the mine plan can be achieved safely.

 

About You:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or equivalent (Mechanical etc).
  • Extensive experience in Underground Mining, cave mining methods exposure highly regarded.
  • Senior level experience in Underground Hard Rock Ventilation.
  • Experience with real time environmental monitoring systems and proactive approach to workplace health monitoring.
  • Additional experience managing Radiation exposure highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated delivery of pragmatic ventilation solutions to support development and production mine plans.
  • Advanced user of VentSim.
  • Experience in Deswik or other CAD packages.
