Our Operations - Olympic Dam

 

One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam, is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. The local township of Roxby Downs is an active and progressive community offering a variety of modern, well-equipped housing, educational, health, sporting, leisure, shopping and cultural facilities.
 

About the Role

 

Reporting to the Fixed Plant Electrical Superintendent (Mine) and in collaboration with the other Electrical Supervisors you will be a key contributor in guiding and building a team of Electrical Technicians. You and your team will safely deliver electrical maintenance activities ensuring compliance with weekly maintenance schedules, operating standards, procedures, and defined processes to achieve optimal maintenance outcomes for Mine Fixed Plant operations.

Please note this position is based at Olympic Dam, South Australia operating on a 7 on / 7 off Day shift roster with residential, DIDO, FIFO from, Adelaide or alternative Bus in, Bus out from Adelaide, Point Pirie or Port Augusta options are available.


 

In this role you will:

 

  • Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader, engaging, developing, and coaching your team
  • Identify, build, and develop team capability through ongoing and regular coaching and development.
  •  Prioritise the execution of work based on condition of risk of equipment to prevent unplanned failures, as well as supervise the execution of the weekly work schedule
  •  Plan and schedule break in work as based on risk of equipment failure within a 7-day period
  • Allocate resources to achieve optimal maintenance outcomes as part of work activity and planning.
  •  Offer continued development and mentorship to your team and ensure competency of individual maintainers in the safe performance of their duties.
  • Development and authorisation of system HV Switching Programs to facilitate system outages and access for maintenance, repairs of additions in line with the BHP Olympic Dam Permit to Work system.
  • Provide key support in the development,  writing and checking of High Voltage switching programs. Assisting and preforming HV system isolations and restorations.
  • Promote and consistently follow the standards and procedures designed to enable you to work safely and effectively every day.
  • Ensure all safe work systems, procedures and standards are adhered to through frequent inspection of the workplace.
  • Provide support to the Electrical teams and mentoring where needed
  • HV and LV switchboard commissioning and testing
  • Generator and Transformer testing and commissioning
  • Protection Relay programming and testing.
  • Preparation of commissioning/testing documentation & protection test plans
  • Detailed technical reports on completion of works
  • Assist planning groups with the 5-year plan, 3monthly rolling plan (3MRP) and in month mine scheduling requirements and compliances (STS).
  • Liaising with contractors for the maintenance and repairs to existing Mine Electrical Infrastructure both Surface and Underground.
  • HV and LV expansion and customer demands.( Future)
  • Working with site HV Network Engineering to ensure system stability. Care and Custody.
  • Liaison with the Mine Fixed Plant Maintenance Reliability department, regarding any system maintenance and strategy requirements. Both BHP and statutory.
  • Liaison with Engineering & HV Protection Team on E-TAP Modelling and system protection and testing to ensure compliance to statutory requirements and regulations.
  • Provide SME and guidance for system repairs and remediation.
  • Supervision of reports and leading a team. LV Reticulation specialists and STS Planners and Schedulers.
  • Document updates and reviews using the BHP “Deswick” drawing/drafting system.
  • Planning, Coordination and Work supervision of special projects completed in house. Transformer change outs, oil replacement programs and HV equipment repairs and remediation.
  • Project design reviews and department consult for these packages of work.

 

About You

 

Our successful candidate will:

 

  • Be able to demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in Safety Leadership.
  • Currently hold an Electrical Trade qualification or hold a degree qualification in a related Electrical discipline.
  • Highly desirable to hold a South Australian Electrical Licence or validity to acquire.
  • Have exposure to Maintenance Execution environments as a supervisor or leader, is preferred. 
  • Understand statutory compliance requirements.
  • Be confident to work across a range of disciplines and levels to foster mutually beneficial and cohesive relationships.
  • Be quality focused with a drive to achieve results for the team.
  • Have the ability to balance multiple incoming priorities and effectively deliver on customer expectations.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings
  • Proven commitment to look after your own wellbeing and the confidence to speak up when others put themselves in harm's way

  • Ability to communicate across multiple levels and disciplines
  • High Voltage Switching
  • Current Drivers licence
  • Experience in high and low voltage maintenance and testing
