A member of the BHP Group, Nickel West produces nickel in-concentrate and has its operations located throughout Western Australia - comprising mines, concentrators, a smelter and a refinery.

Nickel West Kalgoorlie/Kambalda
Kalgoorlie is the largest inland city in Western Australia and due to its central location is positioned at the heart of the Goldfields as a vibrant mining town and a major gateway to the Eastern States. The City of Kalgoorlie/Boulder offers modern shopping facilities, a huge variety of sports, and schooling for all ages up to high school. There are contemporary housing options for all budgets, sporting clubs and leisure complexes of all descriptions. The Kambalda Nickel Smelter receives nickel concentrate from our mining operations in Leinster and Mt Keith as well as from our Third Party Feed concentrator in Kambalda. Nickel West Kalgoorlie incorporates a flash furnace smelter, converters and an acid plant which has the capacity to produce up to 110,000 tonnes per annum of nickel matte.

As part of our commitment to health and safety, Nickel West Kalgoorlie is a smoke free operation and has a clean shaven policy.

All Kalgoorlie roles are residential, FIFO is not an option.

About The Job

As Electrical & Instrumentation Supervisor, you will provide leadership and technical support for effective electrical and instrumentation maintenance across the Kambalda Concentrator.

Primarily your role will involve daily allocation of tasks, rostering, reporting and general supervision of the team of Electrical & Instrumentation Technicians. Your key relationships include the engineering, planning and project teams as well as the other maintenance teams.

Responsibilities include implementing statutory and company safety requirements. You will also be responsible for developing and implementing maintenance strategies that enable plant safety, reliability and performance to be optimized.

About You

Our successful applicant will have sound previous experience in a supervisory capacity along with:

  • A significant post trade experience in a processing or chemical plant environment 
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • A dual qualification in electrical and instrumentation would be highly regarded
  • Computer literacy is essential and exposure to SAP would be beneficial.
  • Strong fault finding skills and more specifically, exposure to Citect DCS systems and Allen Bradley PLCs will be advantageous
  • The ability to delegate effectively, coach and mentor others is a must.
  • Electrical trade skills will include experience working with high voltage & low voltage equipment, VSD speed control, PLC's and process control instruments in addition to strong fault finding skills
  • Exposure to Citect DCS systems and Allen Bradley PLCs will be advantageous
  • Computer literacy is essential and exposure to SAP would be beneficial.
  • The successful applicant will also be required to become the Electrical Licence Holder
  • Qualifications as a Supervising Gas Fitter or experience in gas fitting work is highly preferred.
