About the Role

BHP is seeking a motivated Supervisor Exploration to lead the safe and efficient delivery of exploration programs across its Queensland coal assets. Reporting to the Superintendent Exploration Operations, this role is responsible for overseeing field-based activities including seismic surveys, drilling programs, and earthworks across mine sites and exploration tenements, while ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with business objectives.

Working on an 8:6 days only roster, with FIFO, DIDO or Residential options available, the successful candidate will lead skilled teams and contractors, foster a strong safety culture, and coordinate exploration activities to support operational success. The role can be based in Brisbane or the Bowen Basin region, with flexible work arrangements considered, including alternative home locations, roster variations, or job-sharing opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

As Supervisor Exploration, you will:

  • Demonstrate and promote safe, productive, sustainable, and disciplined work practices.
  • Be appointed as a supervisor under the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and Regulations.
  • Lead and support teams to maintain a strong safety culture through hazard identification, risk management, coaching, and continuous improvement.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Coordinate and oversee exploration activities including drilling, seismic, and earthworks programs.
  • Monitor, track, and report project performance, schedules, and key metrics.
  • Manage projects effectively in dynamic and changing environments.
  • Encourage innovation, problem-solving, and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

You are a proactive and forward-thinking leader who prioritises safety, people, productivity, and innovation.

You will ideally demonstrate:

  • Strong leadership and people-management capabilities.
  • A commitment to safety and operational excellence.
  • The ability to work independently and make decisions confidently when conditions change.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • A focus on continuous improvement and simplifying work processes.

You may come from exploration, mining operations, drilling, earthworks, geology, project delivery or field-based resource industries. Success in this role requires the ability to coordinate multiple contractors, manage changing field conditions and maintain high safety standards across geographically dispersed work sites.
