About the Role


BHP has established Operations Services – a team of employees who will provide production and maintenance services that have previously been performed by external contractors.

As a Maintenance Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in leading a team primarily composed of trade assistants and qualified tradespeople. Your core responsibility will be to ensure the safe, efficient, and high-performance delivery of mechanical maintenance activities, with a strong focus on conveyor systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Inspecting, maintaining, and replacing soft and hard skirts to ensure optimal material containment.Maintaining and servicing belt cleaners/scrapers to support continuous and efficient conveyor operation.
  • Providing hands-on support and guidance to your team, ensuring all tasks are completed safely and to a high standard.
  • Driving a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance maintenance practices and equipment reliability.
  • Championing safety, compliance, and operational excellence across all maintenance activities.
  • Overseeing mechanical conveyor maintenance, including the replacement of bulk and ad-hoc conveyor rollers.


You will be a key leader in fostering a proactive and collaborative team environment, supporting your crew through coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities. Your ability to lead by example and promote a culture of accountability and innovation will be essential to your success in this role.

About You


You will have a desire to shape culture, lead a team and improve business processes. Your background in either a similar type of position or environment will see you well placed with the required capability to step into this opportunity. Your ability to communicate is of the upmost importance as well as your relationships skills. It is essential that you demonstrate impeccable safety behaviours and being safety focused is the main part of your everyday. 

Reporting to the Superintendent Maintenance, you will also:

Foster a positive & productive working relationship and culture between the team members and with other departments; 

  • Ensure HSEC standards, hazard identification and management are applied by departmental personnel; 
  • Continue to identify opportunities to improve the performance of people, processes and systems; 
  • Improve fleet performance through quality maintenance practices; 
  • Have sound business acumen; 
  • Build cross functional relationships with other areas to support the delivery of maintenance; 
  • Have an understanding of SAP; 
  • Coach, review and develop non-trades and trades personnel to ensure their skills are optimised to their full potential; 
  • A trade qualification / Experience in Conveyor Maintenance is highly desirable however not essential.
