About the Role

 

Reporting to the Superintendent Radiation and Occupational Hygiene (ROH) Operations, you will be responsible for leading a team of technicians delivering on radiation, occupational hygiene, hazardous material management and PPE fit testing in the Copper South Australia Health, Safety and Security and Emergency Management (HS&SEM) team.

 

 

This role is based at Olympic Dam on a 5/2, 4/3 roster (with flexibility).  You can elect to FIFO from Adelaide or reside residentially in Roxby Downs.

 

 

Your accountabilities will include:

  • Leading a diverse ROH team through setting and maintaining clear health and safety standards for your team.
  • Leading the execution of requirements outlined in the BHP Integrated management system (IMS), in particular IMS Element 7 Health, Hygiene and Radiation plans.
  • Delivery of compliance monitoring and ensuring monitoring data quality.
  • Implementing and maintaining HS&SEM and ROH policies, systems and processes including BHP Operating system (BOS).
  • Monitoring ROH performance, linking performance to HS&SEM strategy and initiatives.
  • Management of ROH work management processes utilising 1SAP.
  • Providing subject matter expertise to Leadership on ROH related programs/ initiatives to enable compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Building and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships across your areas of influence.
  • Build capability through coaching, mentoring and provide technical ROH advice and support to your team.
  • Supporting a continuous improvement culture that delivers team results across health and safety, culture, cost reduction and synergies.

About You

 

This role will suit an experienced, initiative-taking ROH professional who is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of our people to support a thriving workforce.



As a successful candidate you will have: 

  • Passion for health and safety and a culture of care.
  • Experience leading a team and creating an engaging and supportive performance culture.
  • Proven stakeholder management capability.
  • High level communication and influencing skills, including the ability to produce quality, concise reports and presentations.
  • Proven ability to influence and mentor others in health and safety leadership
  • Tertiary qualification in Radiation/Nuclear Science, Occupational Hygiene, Toxicology, Health Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or similar.
  • Detailed knowledge of key concepts, theories and practices related to effective management of ROH related risks.
  • Experience in the mining industry and relevant legislation.
  • Current Drivers licence (manual is preferable).

 


While not mandatory, but will be desirable if you also possess the following:

  • Licenced radiation safety officer.
  • Australasian Radiation Protection Society Inc (ARPS) membership.
  • Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH) membership.
  • Previous experience with Cority database.
