About BHP Potash – Jansen

The Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan’s history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles. 

 

Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages. To find out more about Potash and the Jansen project, click here.

Work Location

This role will be based at the Jansen Mine Site located in Leroy, SK.. For those not living locally, BHP provides relocation assistance to the local Jansen area. Alternatively, you can enjoy the convenience and comfort of our onsite camp accommodation at Discovery Lodge during your shifts. 

 

BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required. Benefits offered as part of the relocation program include (but are not limited to) new home purchase assistance, temporary accommodations, home finding trip and a resettlement allowance.  

 

Purpose

Reporting to the Superintendent Utilities, the Supervisor Leads a team focused on execution of construction strategies, standards/ frameworks and integration and interface management across the projects lifecycle to ensure delivery in line with the approved statement of requirements. Leads others to ensure safety, productivity, and engagement.  Specifically providing technical expertise in the necessary systems, processes and organizational capabilities required to handover, operate, and maintain new and existing assets.  Provides effective field supervision and oversight for overall management of the Jansen Project site services scopes of work and day-to-day operations.

 

About the Role

In this role you will:

  • Provides effective leadership and oversight for site services-based contractors, including civil earthworks, building and maintenance trade labour, land management and surface water management contractors, onsite bussing requirements, and support for other operational based assets and personnel. 
  • Engages and liaises with a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Supports effective Interfaces coordination amongst all other areas of the BHP Team Jansen Integrated Project Team (IPT) with the NPI Operational Readiness Team are well established and defined.
  • Active involvement in any incident investigations and ensures that identified causes and recommended procedure changes are actioned.
  • Directly responsible for field supervision of common site services scope of work, as well as the communication requirements with the applicable stakeholders.
  • Reviews, approves, and permits as required, hazard specific work including but not limited to, Confined Space Entry, Ground Disturbance, Hot Work Activities, Working at Height Requirements, and any Building Occupancy related permitting and support work.
  • Confirm quality of JHAs, SOPs, WIPRAs and other documents as required.
  • Ensures the effective implementation of Jansen Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) processes, plans, procedures and ensure alignment with the project goals.
  • Support transition of contractors, including prepping for upcoming contractors and contractor mobilization, setup, and demobilization.
  • Coach and mentor Team Jansen workers (contractor and IPT team members) in the field, removing barriers and ensuring safe and quality execution, stopping work if required to resolve a safety or quality issue.
  • Maintain working relationships and regularly update Functional Reps (Engineering, HSEC, Project Services, etc.).
  • Attend site meetings and report/resolve issues when required and attend contractor daily toolbox talks.

 

About You

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience supervising construction projects and overseeing contractor activities, asset operational experience in either in mining, oil and gas, or other resource-based industries.
  • Solid interpersonal skills to oversee and mentor, contractors and consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Bachelor of Science degree, or Engineering degree with a major in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, or Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificate.
  • Previous experience on mining projects or within Potash operations will be considered an asset.
  • Site or Common Services experience, and previous experience and expertise with civil construction earthworks will be considered an asset.
