About the Role:

Prominent Hill is a copper-gold mine, a long-life asset, that is part of the BHP South Australia copper province.  BHP is a global company with operations in Australia, North and South America across 5 different commodities.

As part of the BHP Asset Management and Engineering team the Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF) Engineer is accountable for the assurance of the integrity of BHP's water and tailings storage facilities through engineering governance to manage the risk of dam failure.

 

Location: Prominent Hill, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)
Roster: 8 days on; 6 days off
Department: Asset Management & Engineering
Manager: Senior Metallurgist TSF
Employment Type: Permanent.

In The Role You Will:

  • Fulfil the role of Tailings Engineer reporting directly to the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE).
  • Perform or oversee routine dam inspections of the tailings facility.
  • Develop and refine tailings plans, monitoring and systems that will achieve regulatory compliance.
  • Work with the site teams and design engineer to develop and execute short- and long-term construction and maintenance plans and schedules.
  • Work with the engineer of record to continuously improve and implement the quality assurance and control, construction monitoring, and dam surveillance programs.
  • Provide necessary reporting to site, corporate, and government agencies.
  • Maintain an action log of required tasks and their current status to ensure compliance and adherence to delivery of these tasks.
  • Coordinate activities with Consultants, Project Engineering, Processing, Environmental, contractors and Government Regulators as required.
  • Oversee the engagement of various contractors for the purposes of field investigations at the TSF.
  • Provide updates to operating, maintenance, and surveillance manuals, along with emergency preparedness and response plans, and other management system documents.
  • Work to achieve and maintain compliance to GISTM in line with corporate objectives.
  • Manage and track the site water balance and report to the water steering team. 

About You:

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering or equivalent subjects and industry experience, preferably in the fields civil or geotechnical engineering.
  • Direct experience in tailings and water storage facilities during design, construction, operation and maintenance.
  • Strong capability in engineering principles, standards and processes.
  • Demonstrated experience with defining project scope, working across a range of disciplines and navigating organisational complexity.
  • Highly organised and adaptable to manage conflicting priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong stakeholder and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information to operations and influence at various levels within the organisation.
  • Civil project experience is desirable, and would be experience using SAP.
