About BHP

At BHP we support our people to grow, learn, develop their skills and reach their potential. With a global portfolio of operations, we offer a diverse and inclusive environment with extraordinary career opportunities. Our strategy is to focus on creating a safe work environment where our employees feel strongly connected to our values and objectives, and where the capability of our people is key to our success. Come and be a part of this success.

About the Role

Are you ready to put what you’re learning at university into practice on real digital challenges?

BHP is investing heavily in technology to enhance the way we operate and support a more sustainable future, and we’re looking for Technology Interns to be part of this journey. As Australia’s largest resources company, you’ll apply what you’re learning at university to real digital challenges and play a role in our transformation. You’ll join teams who design, build and support the systems and platforms that enable safe, efficient mining operations across the country, all while being supported in an environment that values care, respect and wellbeing at BHP.

Depending on your discipline, you may support areas such as automation and control systems, operational technologies, data and reporting, digital tools, or cloud and infrastructure services. Your work will contribute directly to the systems and technologies that underpin our iron ore, copper and coal operations across Australia

In 2026 we are offering two technology intern intakes:

  • Winter Program: Commencing 29th June 2026 (8-week program)
  • Summer Program: Commencing 16th November 2026 (10 - 12-week program)

Note: Please indicate at time of application which Program/s (one or both) you would like to be considered for. In addition, strong performance may lead to early consideration for our Australian Graduate Program, or an invitation to return for a second internship if your studies continue, and there may be opportunities to remain employed casually until the next programs commences.

Placements:

While Technology opportunities can be based in our city offices (Adelaide, Brisbane or Perth), some of these internship roles will involve site-based work or travel to one of our operational locations. This allows you to support delivery on the ground, engage directly with operational stakeholders, and see firsthand how our technology enables real-life outcomes.

During your placement, you will:

  • Build your technical capability through real project work
  • Collaborate closely across multiple technical teams
  • Gain exposure to operational environments and technology in action
  • Attend networking events with interns, graduates and leaders
  • Grow a strong professional network to launch your career

What We Are Looking For:

You’ll be a student in your second to penultimate year, able to participate in either our Winter (late June) or Summer (mid-November) intake in an Australian location. In any of the below degrees;

  • Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology
  • Data Science, Analytics, Applied Statistics and Mathematics
  • Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, Networking, Systems Administration
  • Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Process Control or Systems Engineering
  • Business, Commerce or Project Management with a strong technology or digital delivery focus

Most importantly, you’re curious, adaptable and keen to learn. You enjoy solving problems, communicating clearly, collaborating with others and using technology to create positive impact at scale.

Applications close on 26th February 2026.

Please note: If your study discipline is not listed above, further opportunities to apply for the remaining Australian Intern and Graduate Programs will open in March. To receive updates on application dates and helpful tips, please visit bhp.com/careers/graduate-student-programs and subscribe to our newsletter. International students who have a valid visa with no work restrictions for the duration of the internship program are eligible to apply.
