Job Description

As a proven subject matter expert in Software Product Development for both startups and enterprise, and as member of BHP’s global Digital Factory Centre of Excellence, you will play a key role steering, mentoring and supporting Digital Factory product missions that fundamentally change BHP’s performance across safety and productivity.   As a leader of Technology, you will bring a mix of both startup and enterprise software development culture and experience to help fuel BHP’s digital transformation.  The person we are looking for will value simplicity and is unafraid to challenge technical constraints and procedures to achieve repeatable designs that deliver value at velocity.  Above all else however, they are humble but strong leaders and treat all people with respect - while making their voice heard.  


The main game


The Digital Factory Centre of Excellence (CoE) Technology Lead coaches and stewards contemporary and leading-edge digital ways of working (Agile, SCRUM, OKR’s, DevSecOps, CICD), and cloud-based software development expertise across Factories, supporting primarily the Chilean (Copper) and American (Petroleum) Factories.  Their tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Leading and coaching best practice digital ways of working in Agile and DevOps
  • Identifying & executing opportunities for process and pattern development and propagation across Factories, 
  • Assisting with and shepherding accelerated cloud adoption for Digital Factory products
  • Providing an optimized glide-path for software designs and architectural governance for technical leads, solution architects, developers, and data engineers in the Factories. 
  • Ensuring digital fluency is uplifted not only in the factories, but in the region.

The CoE Technology Lead works closely with peer Digital Factory Technical Leads to create modular, scalable solutions that address/incorporate future architectural changes and designs while being compliant with standards, guidelines and patterns. The Technology Lead stewards the Copper and Petroleum Digital Factory’s needs for DevSecOps process & tooling, enhancements to Cloud capabilities, and accelerated alignment with Global Architecture processes, standards and guidelines. With a strong, working knowledge of Digital Ways of Working (e.g. Agile, OKR’s (objective and key results), Mission Planning, Sprint routines, Communities of Practice and more), they are able to coach Factory teams on best practice and both adopt and excel at digital ways of working to help them solve complex technical problems and deliver value at velocity.

The successful candidate will be known quantity in both the startup and enterprise software product development community and must be able to demonstrate:

 

  • They are a natural, engaging, humble yet strong leader -  demonstrating a positive ‘can-do’ collaborative attitude, and a exhibiting a bias to action.
  • That they want to have fun; they want to ‘make a dent in the universe’.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in practical, modern software architecture and / or software development – from an enterprise level and also developer experience 
  • Minimum 5 years experience in modern Agile, SAFe, SCRUM, KANBAN, Lean Software, Lean Startup, OKR methodology, Cloud development and related architectures 
  • A demonstrated Startup mindset, balancing speed and adaptability with the critical cyber and architecture requirements.
  • Possesses practical experience in both a software startup and enterprise software development environment is a strong plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative field like Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field required.  Advanced degree is a strong plus.
  • Experience in Agile Development, DevSecOps, and technical backlog management, with specific Solution Architect (or similar) experience preferred 
  • Experience working on projects that span multiple business units 
  • Understanding of holistic enterprise architecture and interplay of analytical components with enterprise foundational components (data architecture/governance, security, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills with ability to align stakeholders on complex technical decisions
  • Experience with coaching and mentoring technical team members 
  • Dual Spanish/English written and verbal communication skills
