About the Role
The VP Tax Minerals Americas and EMEA is a key member of the Tax Leadership team and is accountable for all the Region’s tax affairs. The successful candidate will leverage off their significant tax and experience to provide leadership and strategic guidance to a large team of tax professionals. This role is a key line of defence in Regional Tax Matters. This role will also drive the tax policy agenda for the Region through the various regional government and industry bodies. A key focus of the role will be to continue delivering optimised tax outcomes for the Regional Assets (Minerals Americas and EMEA) and for growth options in the region (including M&A). This role is based in Toronto.
Key Accountabilities
- Accountability for managing and achieving optimal tax outcomes on all Regional tax matters whilst ensuring that all risks are adequately managed.
- Accurate and timely delivery of the Region’s tax reporting including signing off on the Region’s tax matters for statutory reporting purposes.
- Accountability for the accurate and timely lodgement of the Region’s tax compliance filings and ensuring that taxes in the Region are paid on time.
- Accountability for an accurate and timely cash tax/ETR budget/forecast for the Region
- Management and sign-off on all Regional input into BHP’s Economic Contribution Report.
- Accountability for ensuring that the Region manages and addresses announced and pending tax law changes (including changes to administrative guidance) in a timely and accurate manner
- Accountability for ensuring that the team adheres to all Global Tax processes
- Accountability for effectively managing Regional tax disputes and ensuring that stakeholders are properly informed through the dispute process.
- Supporting the Group Tax Officer on Regional and Global Tax advocacy initiatives and other matters as and when required.
- Provision of strategic insights to stakeholders (including the Group Tax Officer) on all Americas (“Region”) tax matters. Managing and driving BHP’s tax policy agenda for the Region.
- Managing the development, implementation and execution of significant projects within the Region.
- Develop the talent and capability within the Regional team and deliver high levels of staff engagement.
- Provide input to the development of annual and long term strategic planning for the Global Tax function and execute against the final plans.
- Accountability for managing and driving the Region’s value generation process
About You
- Significant tax experience at a senior level in a large multinational organisation leading a large tax team
- Significant experience in managing complex tax audits and negotiating tax settlements with regulators
- Deep knowledge of tax legislation, case law and administrative positions in the region
- Knowledge of relevant tax effecting accounting rules / regulations and significant experience in statutory tax reporting processes
- Highly proficient in reviewing tax research outcomes and applying technical judgment across multiple jurisdictions
- Significant experience in tax advocacy.
- Relevant degree qualifications.
- Master’s degree in Tax Law and/or professional association membership.
