Located 472 kilometres north-west of Adelaide, South Australia, Carrapateena is part of our Minerals Australia operations, within the Copper South Australia province. The mine is located on the traditional land of the Kokatha people. Carrapateena produces copper concentrate and is one of the largest mining projects in South Australia in the last decade.

 

About the Role

 

The Senior Water Engineer will be responsible for water management, planning and reporting at Carrapateena. We want the role to take ownership and play a key role in our future planning and risk management in both construction and operation of water infrastructure.

 

Please note this position is based at Carrapateena, operating on a 4 days on / 3 days off roster pattern arrangement, on a FIFO (from Adelaide) basis.

 

In this role you will:

 

  • Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader, assisting in engaging, developing and coaching the team
  • Lead planning for water management activities and projects across short- and medium-term horizons
  • Support tracking of water performance metrics and delivery of key water reporting, including wellfield health and adherence to regulatory requirements   
  • Influence and lead change in water management across Carrapateena, including leading the site water steering committee
  • Support governance and update of key operational water models
  • Leverage operational water models to assess future scenarios to ensure water related risks are managed appropriately
  • Provide technical support to projects as a Water Management subject matter expert, to various departments around site
  • Coordinate the operation and maintenance of the site Reverse Osmosis plants
  • Drive continuous improvement of internal processes and ways of working

 

About You

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or Science (preferred disciplines Civil, Mining, Water Resources or Environmental)
  • Several years’ experience with operational water management, preferably within a heavy industry context
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely to non-technical and leadership audiences
  • Ability to think strategically and quickly grasp technical problems and business requirements
  • Ability to prioritise effectively based on risk and value
  • Ability to apply knowledge of water management in an underground mining context
  • Demonstrated capabilities in effectively engaging with various levels and across operations and functions to influence change
