About the Role

 

 

We’re seeking a Reliability Specialist – Rolling Stock Maintenance to join our Reliability team, with a strong focus on financial performance, budget development, and cost optimisation across maintenance activities.

 

 

Reporting to the Reliability Superintendent, this role is focused on ensuring maintenance outcomes are delivered efficiently, within budget, and with clear financial discipline. You will play a key role in developing maintenance budgets, identifying cost reduction opportunities, and improving cost transparency across rolling stock maintenance.

 

 

Partnering with Maintenance, Planning, and Finance teams, you will help ensure that maintenance activities are not only effective but also deliver the best value for the business.

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

 

 

Budget Development & Financial Management

 

  • Develop and maintain rolling stock maintenance budgets
  • Support forecasting, accruals, and month‑end financial processes
  • Provide clarity on budget performance and cost drivers
  • Track actual spend against plan and highlight risks and variances

 

 

 

Cost Optimisation & Value Delivery

 

  • Identify and deliver cost reduction opportunities across maintenance activities
  • Challenge maintenance scopes to remove non‑value or unnecessary work
  • Collaborate with the broader reliability team to improve cost efficiency without compromising safety or Asset performance
  • Support decision‑making by providing clear cost vs value insights

 

 

 

Cost Visibility & Reporting

 

  • Provide clear, consistent reporting on maintenance costs and performance
  • Improve transparency of cost drivers across rolling stock activities
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity within SAP and reporting systems
  • Translate financial data into simple, practical insights for teams and leaders

 

 

 

Governance & Financial Discipline

 

  • Drive adherence to cost management standards, processes, and controls
  • Ensure correct use of work orders, cost centres, and purchase orders
  • Support audit readiness and compliance with financial requirements
  • Promote accountability for cost across maintenance teams

 

 

 

Stakeholder Engagement

 

  • Work closely with Maintenance, Planning, and Finance teams
  • Support and guide frontline leaders in understanding and managing costs
  • Provide input into planning and execution activities where cost is impacted
  • Act as a key link between operational teams and financial outcomes

 

 

 

About You

 

 

  • Experience in cost control, budgeting, or financial management in an operational environment
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to understand cost drivers
  • Ability to identify and deliver cost improvement opportunities
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Confident communicator able to simplify financial information
  • Ability to work closely with operational teams in a dynamic environment
  • SAP and maintenance systems experience
