About Prominent Hill

Prominent Hill is a well-established copper‑gold operation within BHP’s Minerals Australia portfolio, with a strong future and ongoing investment.

Located 650km north‑west of Adelaide, the site operates across underground and surface mining on an 8/6 FIFO roster.

A major shaft project is supporting underground expansion and extending mine life to at least 2040, creating long-term opportunities across the operation.

It’s a technically complex site where you can build your skills, take on new challenges, and be part of a team where safety and looking out for each other matters.

We currently have a vacancies for  Mechanical and Electrical Technicians, working within the Prominent Hill Maintenance and Engineering team.

The Challenge ahead

As a Maintenance Technician, you’ll play an important role in keeping our Processing and Paste operations running safely, reliably and effectively.

You’ll carry out planned and unplanned maintenance across both Malu and Ankata paste plants and supporting infrastructure, using your trade expertise to identify and resolve issues that affect equipment performance and availability.

This is an opportunity to apply your maintenance skills in a technically challenging  mining environment while contributing to equipment reliability, production performance and the future growth of Prominent Hill.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

You’ll be an experienced Mechanical or Electrical tradesperson who is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team in an operational environment.

You’ll bring:

• An Australian recognised Mechanical or Electrical Trade qualification, which is essential for this role
• Experience in a similar role, with exposure to fixed plant maintenance desirable
• A strong commitment to safety, including the confidence to speak up when something doesn’t feel right
• The ability to make sound decisions within your area of responsibility and escalate issues when required
• An adaptable approach and willingness to learn as operational requirements change

Experience with fixed plant assets in mining environments will be highly regarded but not essential.

Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day work will focus on maintaining safe and reliable Processing and Paste plant equipment. You will:

• Carry out planned and unplanned maintenance, inspections and checks on processing and paste plant equipment and supporting infrastructure
• Troubleshoot and assist in resolving maintenance issues affecting equipment performance and availability
• Apply your maintenance trade skills to maintenance activities that support the reliability and stability of the paste plants
• Review and update maintenance schedules and equipment history
• Develop and revise operating and maintenance procedures as required
• Communicate plant and equipment status to relevant teams and maintain high housekeeping standards across work areas

Throughout your work, you’ll consistently follow BHP standards and procedures so that every task is completed safely and effectively.

Work Location

This role is based at Prominent Hill, South Australia, on a FIFO basis from Adelaide or Port Augusta.

The roster is 8 days on, 6 days off, followed by 7 nights on, 7 days off, giving you a structured rotation between site and home.
